The attacker had threatened a mass shooting last year. According to BBC, the attacker has been identified as Colt Gray. He will be tried as an adult. Police had previously suspected Colt’s activities. In May of the previous year, the FBI had questioned Colt’s family.

At that time, he had made threats of a mass shooting on social media. However, he was not arrested then. Colt’s father had argued that they had a hunting rifle, which they always monitored.

According to news agency AP, there have been 30 mass shootings in 2024 so far, resulting in 131 deaths. A mass shooting is defined as an incident in which four or more people are killed within a 24-hour period, excluding the shooter.

In 2023, there were 42 mass shootings, resulting in the deaths of 217 people. This made the previous year the worst in American history.

On Wednesday, Sheriff Judd Smith from Barrow County held a press conference outside Apalachee High School.
