Centre Announces ₹3,300 Crore Financial Aid for Flood-Affected Telugu States

Gulte, 6 September 2024

The central government has announced a financial aid of ₹3,300 crores for the flood-affected regions of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Continuous heavy rainfall over 4-5 days in both Telugu states has caused widespread devastation, leaving many people homeless.

The heavy rains have led to excess water accumulation in reservoirs, creating a risk of dam breaches. As a result, several colonies and low-lying areas have been inundated with floodwaters.

Standing crops in various regions have also been damaged. The departments of roads and buildings, as well as the energy department, have been impacted by strong winds and persistent rainfall.

The Telangana government has estimated the damage caused by the recent floods to be ₹5,438 crores. The livestock, panchayat raj, rural development, medical and health departments, and municipal administration have also suffered losses due to the floods.

In Andhra Pradesh, the breaching of the Budameru canal has submerged several areas, particularly around Vijayawada and its neighboring locations.

Under the instructions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, drones have been used in Andhra Pradesh to deliver essential supplies to people stranded in submerged areas.
