A shocking murder case has emerged in Bengaluru, where a man named Mukti Ranjan strangled his colleague Mahalakshmi, dismembered her body into 59 pieces, and stored them in a refrigerator.
According to a senior police official, the incident occurred on the night of September 3, 2024, when Mukti Ranjan visited Mahalakshmi’s house. A heated argument between them escalated, leading Mukti Ranjan to strangle her in a fit of rage. After committing the murder, he panicked but didn’t flee. Instead, he spent the entire night watching YouTube videos on how to dispose of a body.
The next morning, Mukti Ranjan bought a large knife from a nearby shop and proceeded to cut Mahalakshmi’s body into pieces, which he later stored in the fridge. The police later found the knife wrapper, which led them to the shop where the knife was purchased.
The horrifying incident came to light on September 20 when Mahalakshmi’s decomposing body parts were discovered by her family after they noticed a foul smell coming from her apartment. Mahalakshmi, who lived alone following a dispute with her husband, worked in a local mall.
On September 25, Mukti Ranjan was found dead, having committed suicide by hanging himself in his hometown in Odisha. His suicide has complicated the investigation, with Bengaluru police now trying to piece together his movements after the murder.
Family Accusations and Investigation
Mukti Ranjan’s brother, Satya Ranjan, has alleged that Mahalakshmi had been blackmailing Mukti, which might have led to the murder. The police have questioned Mukti Ranjan’s family and neighbors to gather more information. They are also investigating whether more people were involved in the crime, as fingerprints of multiple individuals were found at the crime scene.
Details of the Murder
Mahalakshmi and Mukti Ranjan had been in a relationship for six months. Mahalakshmi wanted to marry him, but Mukti Ranjan was not ready for the commitment. This disagreement led to frequent arguments, culminating in the fatal altercation on the night of September 3.
In his suicide note, Mukti Ranjan expressed regret, stating that although he loved Mahalakshmi, she often fought with him and even threatened to frame him in a kidnapping case. This reportedly pushed him over the edge.
Police are now waiting for forensic reports to determine whether Mukti Ranjan used any chemicals to clean up the crime scene. They are also examining the laptop and diary found at Mukti Ranjan’s suicide location for further clues.
The Aftermath and Family Tensions
Following Mukti Ranjan’s death, his brother has accused Mahalakshmi of extortion and emotional manipulation, stating that she took a gold chain and a significant amount of money from Mukti. Bengaluru police are considering bringing Mukti’s brother to the city for further questioning.
Meanwhile, investigators are working on gathering more evidence, including CCTV footage and witness statements. They are also considering confronting Mahalakshmi’s family and Mukti’s family face-to-face to resolve conflicting claims about the circumstances that led to the tragic events.
Police Statement
Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayanand has confirmed that Mukti Ranjan’s suicide note admits to the murder, and the investigation is ongoing. Four special teams are working on the case to ensure all angles are covered. Once more details are gathered from Odisha, further updates will be provided.
